Children who have eczema are more likely to have a type of bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus (staph) on their skin. This bacteria can trigger or worsen eczema flares.
Bleach baths help lower the amount of bacteria on the skin. This can reduce the risk of infection, calm inflammation, and help relieve itching and redness. With regular use, bleach baths may also help reduce how often flares happen.
Bleach baths work best as part of a full eczema care routine, along with moisturizers and any other treatments that your child's doctor has prescribed. Bleach baths are not meant to be used alone.
