Work, school, or even a late-night movie can require you to be away from your baby. This doesn't mean you have to give up breastfeeding. Feeding your baby from your breasts is ideal. If you must be away from your baby, you can express milk from your breast. Talk with your doctor about the best ways to feed expressed breast milk to your infant. But remember, try to wait to give your baby bottles or pacifiers until breastfeeding is well established, usually around 3 to 4 weeks. It is okay to use them sooner if needed for medical reasons. Waiting helps your baby get used to your nipple and helps you both get a good start on breastfeeding.
